The August 2026 Sire Summary will introduce new CDCB traits designed to give producers additional insight into fertility and calf health. The fertility trait addresses the need for a selection trait calculated independent of voluntary waiting period, predicting a
lactating cow’s ability to conceive. Because raising replacements is one of the costliest expenses a dairy incurs, dairy producers need to reduce the risk of calfhood disease, which can make heifer rearing even more expensive. Thus, the new calf health traits
tackle those health concern.
